28th of May – Obama day in Warsaw

0 km – Warsaw

As the title said, today was Obama day in the Polish capital. It´s not a special date, just that he was here, so the whole city went insane. Lots of streets were cut, so we had to try not to be in his way, not to get stock. We didn´t succeed all the time, but we could visit a lot of the city.

Today the day started like some relaxing vacation. Easy, no hurries, peaceful big breakfast, coffee … And slowly we got ready to leave to Warsaw. We visited the Wilanov palace, which is lik a little Versailles.  And then it was time to go to the center, but we had to check the route that Obama was taking, to avoid getting stock somewhere.

We went to the Lazienkowski park, which is big and full of peacocks. It´s nice and peaceful to walk around there. And that´s what we did. They took me around and explained everything. We saw the presidential palace and the building of government, the streets were completely blocked by the police, nobody was allowed to cross them, so we turned around but, still, we saw the presidential car, where Obama was supposed to be. Here we also eat a gofer, with fruits on top, and cream. Very tasty!

From there we went the uprising museum, about when Polish people decided to rebel against the Nazis. It was interesting and interactive. You can read lots, but there are also videos pictures, and a terrace on the top, which views of the city. There you can also see which buildings where since before the war, and they are really few.

It was time to go for lunch! And I could finally try the famous Pierogi, a filled pasty. Similar to kybyn, at least how it looks, but they are boiled or backed in the oven. They can basically have anything inside: meat, vegetables, cheese, even strawberries. We ordered a mix of everything, to try them, and they were really good.

After this they showed me the old town, and we walked around the streets. Everything is reconstructed, as it was destroyed by the Nazis during the war. But I think it´s really well done, and it really looks much older than it is. In here we had an ice-cream.

We, especially me, wanted to see a light and sound show in one fountain, that they do every Saturday in summer. So to spend time we had a beer in a local place, that brew their own beer. We had 2 kinds, and the one made of wheat, not filtered, was the best.

The show at the fountain was ok. Mixing different styles of music and colors with moving water. With the lasers they drew the most touristic places on the water, and they even projected real images. That was impressive, but in general it was a bit too long (a bit more than 20 minutes), because the patterns of the lights and movement of the water was basically the same all the time. So if it had been a bit shorter, I would have enjoyed it more.

Later we headed home and had supper. And of course, had a coffee, with their great coffee machine. If I could I would buy one like that and carry it on my bike. It´s really delicious the latte it makes.

So I really enjoyed Warsaw today thanks to my hosts. They were very kind and they treated me to everything, and talking to them was great. The only thing is that we had to run away from Obama, but nothing is perfect.

28 de mayo – Día de Obama en Varsovia

0 km – Varsovia

Finalmente hemos vuelto a casa y hemos cenado.
