9th of May – Last day in Finland

93,40 Rautjärvi – Nuijamma

Today was my last day in Finland. Tomorrow in the morning I´m crossing the border and I will enter Russia.

I tried to keep it easy with few kilometers, but I got lost several times. First I wanted to get to Imatra to look for a bookshop and a library. It´s a big town, so it had both, but the last part of the road 6 is a highway, not allowed for bicycles. There is a bike road, but I got really lost. I asked several times, but the way was not easy.

Finally I asked an elderly man on a bike for the center of Imatra, and he asked what exactly I was looking for. I told him that a bookshop. He was a retired man just on a bike tour, so he said he could take me there. He was really nice. On the way there he tried to teach me the names of every bird we saw, but I already forgot all of them.

And … I finally found The Little Prince, in the last Finish town. I can´t believe it took this long to find, but now I just have to take it home to add it to my collection.

I spent a long time in the town. I went to the library and used the internet, and I had lunch in the river side. The town is simple, without big buildings, and not many things to visit, but it has a great river side with lots of gardens.

In the library I asked for the best way to the Russian border and they showed me a “rural” way. It was not paved road, where I would not dare drive my car. It was the 10 hardest km of the trip so far. I got lost and did 50 km instead of 35. So at the end I did almost 100 when I just wanted to do 60.

Right now I´m in a forest in front of the border. I literally can see the border control building from here.

I leave you a picture of the river side of Imatra with my bike, and another one of the road, a few km from where I am right now.

Rusia.

Encima, me he perdido y he acabado haciendo 50 km en vez de 35.
