3rd of May – Continuing on Santa´s road trough the Arctic Circle

145,19 km Sondakylä – Rovaniemi

Now I understand why it´s called Santa´s road. Right on the Arctic Circle it´s Santa´s Village. You can actually visit Santa Claus himself every day of the year, but only from 10:00 to 17:00. And I was too late, but I think I will go back there tomorrow morning, as I´m less than 10 km away and I can leave my stuff here.

The morning went as usual. Packed, had breakfast and hit the road. Around the 80th kilometer I decided to stop for a quick snack, I found a stopping place with tables and when I got there: there was another traveler by bike! I was really surprised, as it´s the first one I see since I started.

We talked a bit, basically about cycling, bikes and roads. He was a French guy who started his trip in the south of France. He was using a different kind of bike, the one that is almost like laying down and according to him, taking the bike was the best decision he had made. He had been riding for 6 weeks and now he was on the way to Nordkapp. We wished each other good luck and went to different directions.

As I kept cycling I saw a sign pointing the Arctic Circle. I really thought it was south of Rovaniemi, but it turns out that it´s not. Anyway I stopped there and took some pictures. Santa´s working time was over, but I think I´ll see him tomorrow.

Later I continued to Rovaniemi, where I met the couchsurfing host, Petra, an Erasmus at this city. I cooked some dinner for them and she let me use her computer, so I was able to talk to my family.

Right now I´m doing more kilometers than what I thought, but I will slow down a bit. Till now it was too cold, but in a few days I hope to enjoy the places where I camp.

Sólo estoy a 10 kilómetros y puedo dejar mis cosas aquí.

La mañana ha ido como siempre. Me he preparado, he desayunado y he empezado a pedalear.
