2nd of May – Santa´s road and the end of the Sami territory.

165,30 km Ivalo – Sodankylä

I am really impressed with my cycling today, I didn´t only go further, but faster too. I don’t know if it´s yesterday’s sauna or the reindeer I ate.

Today I started around the same time as always. The first 30 km where basically uphill, because it takes to a skiing resort. There I ate the sandwich that Olga had prepared me (yes, she is extremely nice). The next kilometers were downhill, till the last Sami village, Voutso.

From the beginning of the trip it´s been Sami territory, but I didn´t see much of them but closed tourist shops on the side of the road (except in Karasjok, the Sami capital).

To celebrate that I survived the Sami land without being attacked by a reindeer I decided to go to a small restaurant. I asked if they had something typical, which was not too big, not to cycle too full. The woman working there told me that they had reindeer pizza and pie. I had a piece of both of them and they were delicious.

Then I continued my way. And I started going really fast. My speed average is almost 1 km per hour faster now. I can´t really understand how I did so well. It´s true that a lot was downhill, but I was keeping more than 20km/h even uphill.

The landscape is completely different now. As I entered Finland I started seeing more trees, but now everything is a huge forest. I really like it, and it´s closer to the idea of the Nordic landscape I had. As I go south there is less snow. Today in Ivalo almost everything was covered in snow, but now there is almost none.

I wanted to get to Sodankylä, to buy something for breakfast, but just a couple kilometers before I saw a great place to put the tent, in the forest.

In the pictures you can see more landscape, the end of the Sami territory and the place where I camped.

Luego he seguido mi camino y he empezado a ir mucho más rápido.
