22nd of May – The beautiful Lithuanian roads and the arrival of summer.

196,44 km Rokiskis – Vilnius

Once in Lithuania I was much more optimistic, the roads were much better, and it was getting warmer. Today it was a very peaceful day. I did many km, but there were not many adventures happening.

I managed to leave the guest house at the time I planned, something very unusual for me. I dropped the keys at Gintas´s, the president of the Young Leaders club, and I started my way. As it was Sunday, I saw many markets in the villages I crossed. It was nice to see so lively places, with people buying and eating.

I didn´t really stop till Utena. I did stop to stretch a bit and to take pictures, but I was feeling really strong and rested. The roads were not as good as the Finnish ones, but there were really few cars.

I was surprised by the amount of storks I saw. I´ve seen a few in this trip before, but here there are hundreds. In every high place you can see them building their nests, it´s very nice.

From Utena, famous for its many breweries, I had to take a much bigger road. There were many more cars, but the sideway was quite wide. In this way there wasn´t that much to see, but I don´t get bored easily. I still enjoyed the green countryside and I came up with some great ideas (I´m not writing them till I put a copyright on them).

I also saw one car being pushed by 2 guys, when another two were behind them drinking beer and laughing. They stopped me, I guess just for fun, and asked if I had gas. When I said I did, they were really surprised, and they wanted to change it for beer. But later they said that half a liter would not make any difference, so they thanked me, and I continued.

As I didn´t stop much and the road was good I managed to reach the outside of Vilnius earlier than expected. So I had to wait for my next host. I have a friend who is from the city, but now she lives in London. Still I´m staying with her family. They are really nice.

While I was waiting I decided to keep writing my blog. I know I´m a little behind, and I apologize for that, I will try to catch up as soon as possible, but it also depends on the Internet availability.

I went to my friend´s house, and I´m staying in her room. And after a shower and nice supper, her brother, Emilis, took me to the city center. The streets were full of people, it was warm so it seemed summer.

We took the bikes so we did a quick tour around the whole place. We even went to high places to see the city from above. It´s amazing how Vilnius looks, it´s a city in a forest! It looks like if the buildings grew from the earth. I can´t wait to see more of it tomorrow.

I haven´t been talking about the animals I saw because there wasn´t much, but now I think I can do a recompilation.

I already talked about the lemmings in the north, but from there till the Baltic countries there weren´t many animals. I saw a snake in Russia, but that was it. In Estonia I saw a fox, but by the time I took the camera it was gone. And now the more south I go I can hear more birds and see other animals. Of course storks, but also toads, hedgehogs and lizards of every size.

Casi no he parado hasta Utena.

Mientras esperaba he decidido escribir el blog.
