2nd of June – Exploring Krakow

0km Krakow

My original idea was to leave Krakow early in the morning, but later I decided to stay till midday, and at the end I stayed another night. It was great being with my friend Hania, and seeing Krakow, so I´m happy with the decision I took of staying and resting one day.

As in the morning I hadn´t decided what I was going to do I woke up quite early. But the weather forecast was not very optimistic. So I decided to sleep in a bit longer. When I woke up again, it was already quite late so I went for breakfast with my friend. We had a Zapiekanka in the Jewish district. It was a nice surprise, when I saw how big it was, and it was tasty too.

After that we walked around the city, still deciding if I was going to leave to Zakopane or not. We saw the market square, and the cathedral in it. The walls are really nice painted, and the ceiling is blue with stars. There are lots of ornaments in these catholic Polish churches. Even though I liked the simplicity of the protestant churches of the Baltic countries, it´s enjoyable to see the contrast.

Later it was time to see the castle, with the dragon, of course. The legend says that there was a dragon living here, till he was defeated (by a knight who got to marry the princess…). So now there is a statue of a dragon which breathes fire every few minutes. Inside the castle there is a wall which gives energy. After lining on it I decided to stay the whole day in Krakow, and then attempt to reach Hungary in 2 days, crossing the Tatra.

So now with more time we went to a lake to take a bath, but when we were getting there it started raining hard, so we decided to leave it for another time. It´s the second time I fail to swim here. When I was here 7 years ago, we ended up in another lake by accident. It seems that there is some kind of curse on this place.

Lunch was great, it has been the first time I feel completely full in this trip. The food was superb in a nice atmosphere. I tried a soup, zurek, served on bread. I wanted to eat everything, including the “plate”, but after the main dish, I simply couln´t eat the rest of the bread. It was a great place. When I come back for sure I will eat here again.

After walking a bit more it was time to hit the bars. Hania took me to a place to try honey beer. I don´t know why I’m surprised, but the beer really tasted like honey. I liked it. It´s not something to drink every day, but it´s perfect for refreshing on a warm summer day. From there we went to the market place again, and there was a really nice sunset. The weather hadn´t been so bad after all.

We still went to another pub before going home. I want to leave early, so I packed already. Tomorrow I will have many kilometers and crossing the Tatra, so many mountains. I´m ready for the challenge, I really want to test myself. Till now it has been flat and easy, let´s see how I like cycling in tougher roads.

2 de Junio – Explorando Cracovia

0 km Cracovia

Todavía hemos ido a otro bar antes ir a casa.
