10 of June – New country where I’ve never been before.

192,59 km  Köröroshely – Cven

Actually I didn´t realize till I crossed the border, but I´ve never been to Slovenia. I was here 22 years ago, but it was still part of Yugoslavia, not an independent country. I was 3 years old, so I barely remember anything, but I have to say that I really like what I´ve seen so far.

My girlfriend had to get to Budapest for work, so she took the 5:20 train. I accompanied her, and immediately I left towards Slovenia. It was quite warm but it was cloudy, so I thought that if it got sunny before I left the lake I would take a swim, unfortunately it didn´t.

The way next to the Balaton is really beautiful and bike friendly. Some time the way goes next to the water, those where my favorite parts. I stopped a couple hours later by the lake for the second breakfast, and I thought about swimming, but later I figured that I would just do it to be able to say that I´ve done it. And I already done it, and for sure I will again, so I didn´t, as it was still cloudy.

When I left the Balaton I took the wrong way. I looked at a really stupid map in the morning, and one of the villages was not on my way, but when I realized I had done 15 km in the wrong direction. So I had to turn around. At least there was a hill, which I had to climb, from where I could see a big part of the lake, it was a nice view.

From there till the border was quite easy. I didn´t get lost, but I got really stressed. I couldn´t remember the exact distance, so I was a bit worried. Then I saw a sign pointing Ljubljana, still in Hungary, and I did the math, it looked that I had to do 230 km today. But later they told me that that distance is through the highway, which does many more kilometers.

Today I started seeing some animals again. For a couple kilometers, quite close to the border, there where bees following me. Flying around me. I was a bit scared that they would bite me, so I tried not to move too suddenly, but afterwards they just went away. But the most interesting birds I saw were the swallows, once in Slovenia, which for me it means that the summer already arrived. It was nice to see them fly.

I have to say that I’m really impressed with Slovenia. I really had no expectations for this country, I never thought of how it would look, but I´m really impressed. It´s really beautiful, with lots of hills, and lots of great bicycle roads. I really enjoyed the 20 km till Cven, where my next host was waiting for me.

I´m staying with Rajko and his mother. They are really nice people. We had a traditional Slovenian “lunch”, with soup, meat, rice and horseradish with sour cream. And we kept talking about food, and they have me also Tünka, a piece of pork meat, which is served on bread with pig´s fat, it´s great. And with coffee I had Putica, a typical pasty.

Later Rajko took me to a mill. It´s special because it´s floating on the river. Before there were lot´s in the river Mura, but now there are just 2, and the other one is just for tourists. The one I saw, in Verzej, it´s still working. Later we went for a walk in Ljutomer, which is a small town, but friendly looking.

Afterwards we went to his house again and had a barbecue. There I met a friend of his who joined us for dinner. It was nice talking to them. They explained many things about this country. And they told me that Slovenians are famous of their hospitality and that they never let guests go hungry. So far I can´t complain at all.

It was hard to leave Hungary, but I had to continue. Luckily Slovenia is really nice so it´s making it easier to go. I really liked what I´ve seen today of this country. I can´t wait till tomorrow and see more.

Le he acompañado a la estación, e inmediatamente he partido hacia Eslovenia.

No me he perdido más, pero me he estresado.

Hoy he empezado a ver animales otra vez.

    Bonitas fotos...
